You may have come across the term Gallup CliftonStrengths, heard about it from colleagues, or wondered whether it could help you with career or personal development.

Gallup CliftonStrengths is one of the most widely used strengths-based development tools in the world. It helps people discover their natural strengths and shows how to apply them at work, in study, and in everyday life.

Unlike many other assessments, it does not focus on your weaknesses or what you should improve. It focuses on what comes naturally to you and where you have the greatest potential for growth.

What is Gallup CliftonStrengths?

Gallup CliftonStrengths is an online tool developed by Gallup based on decades of research into human talent. The result is not a personality evaluation or a list of recommended careers. Instead, you receive an overview of your natural talent themes — patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that recur consistently and come naturally to you.

Gallup works with 34 talent themes, for example:

Each person has a unique combination of talents. That combination shapes the way we approach work, relationships, decision-making and problem-solving.

Is CliftonStrengths a personality test?

This is one of the most common questions. Gallup CliftonStrengths is not a classic personality test. It does not place you into categories or types. It does not try to define who you are. Instead, it helps you understand which natural patterns of behaviour and thinking show up most consistently in you.

Two people may share a similar profession or life experience but have entirely different talents — which is why they may achieve results in completely different ways.

Gallup does not explain who you are. It shows where you naturally draw energy from and which strengths you can develop more deliberately.

How does Gallup CliftonStrengths work?

You complete an online assessment in which you choose between pairs of statements. The key is to respond spontaneously and not look for the "right" answers. The tool is not a performance test or an evaluation.

Once you finish, you receive results showing the ranking of your talent themes. Most clients work with the Top 5 talents or a full profile of all 34 talent themes.

The report itself is often very insightful — but the greatest value comes from interpreting the results and connecting them to your real life, work and goals.

What can your Gallup results show you?

"This is exactly how I work — I just never had the words for it."

Gallup can help you better understand:

For many people it brings greater confidence, because they realise they do not need to function the same way as everyone else.

When does Gallup CliftonStrengths make the most sense?

Career change or new professional direction

If you are thinking about changing jobs or looking for your next professional direction, Gallup helps you better understand your natural strengths and the environments in which you can thrive long-term.

Personal development and greater self-confidence

Many clients come with a sense that they are not fully using their potential. Gallup helps name their strengths and build on what already works.

Manager and leadership development

Managers often gain a better understanding of their own leadership style — and of how to work effectively with the different talents of people on their team.

Team collaboration

Gallup helps explain why people approach the same situation in different ways, and how to make better use of the diversity of talents within a team.

Choosing a school or career path

For students and young people, Gallup can bring greater clarity about which activities naturally draw them in and where they can develop their potential.

Is reading the report enough?

The report is a good starting point, but it is often not enough on its own. The same talent can work as a significant advantage in one situation and bring real challenges in another. Context matters — and so does understanding how each talent theme actually shows up in your specific life.

That is why my work is not just about handing over results, but about interpreting them and finding concrete ways to apply them in everyday life and work.

Is Gallup CliftonStrengths right for you?

If you want to better understand your talents, are looking for a new professional direction, want to build confidence, or want to develop your strengths more deliberately — Gallup CliftonStrengths can be a very useful starting point.

It will not tell you who you should be. It will help you better understand who you already are — and how to use your natural talents more consciously and with greater ease.
